NXNE (North by Northeast), the music festival in Toronto. Questions about anything on this page, or about your own information, go to perform@nxne.com and a person will answer.

Everything on this list is on the application form, because you typed it in:

• About the act — artist or band name, where you are based, your bio, how many performers, how long you have been releasing music, whether you are performing now, your recent or next show, whether you have played NXNE before, genres, and your sounds-like comparison.
• Where to hear you — the links you choose to give: streaming, video, socials, your website, or a private link.
• The practical side — the room sizes you usually play, which nights you are available, any restrictions, and any accessibility requirements you tell us about.
• Why you are applying — what you hope to get out of NXNE, who you would like to meet, how you would promote a set, and anything else you want us to know.
• How to reach you — contact name, relationship to the act, phone number, email address, and whether you want a booking contact shown on your artist page if you are booked.
• Files — a web photo and a social photo, a stage plot, and optionally a press kit and one track.
• The declaration — your agreement to the terms, your typed signature, and the date.

One section asks how many people in your band, production or management team self-identify as a person of colour, as Indigenous, as part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, or as equity-deserving and/or differently-abled.

Every one of those questions is optional, and leaving them blank changes nothing about your application. They are never a factor in any decision and they are not scored. We ask because the funding that pays artists requires the festival to report on who it reaches, and those numbers are what that reporting is made of.

• The date and time you submitted.
• A scrambled, one-way fingerprint of your internet connection — never the address itself. It exists only to stop a script hammering the form, and it is deleted within a day.
• A bot check from Cloudflare Turnstile when you submit, which tells us you are a person and nothing else about you.

The public pages of this site use Google Analytics, which sets cookies and tells us how people arrive and move around — which post brought you here, which country you visited from, which pages get read. We use it to understand which outreach works. What you type into the application is never sent to Google: your answers, your files and your contact details travel only to the festival. Most ad blockers stop Google Analytics entirely, and the form works exactly the same either way. Beyond that, the only cookie the site itself sets belongs to festival staff signing in to the review tool.

Members of the NXNE programming team, and only them. Access is by invitation: each person has their own account and their own password, an administrator grants it, and it can be revoked immediately. Actions taken on an application are recorded against the person who took them.

Your uploaded files are held in private storage — not published, not indexed, and not openable by anyone without a festival account.

We use a small number of service providers, each doing one job. They handle your information on our instructions, not for their own purposes:

• Vercel — runs the website and stores your uploaded files.
• Neon — the database holding your application.
• Cloudflare — the bot check on the form.
• Resend — sends your confirmation and any letters we send you.
• Google Sheets — the programming team keeps a working copy of applications in a private spreadsheet alongside the review tool.
• Google Analytics — usage statistics for the public pages only; your application answers never go there.

Your information is stored and processed in the United States — our database runs in US East — so it is subject to the laws there, including lawful access requests by US authorities. If you would rather it were not handled that way, email us before you apply and we will talk it through.

For this application cycle, and afterwards so the programming team can consider you for future editions and remember that you applied. If you would rather we did not keep it, say so and we will delete it.

Email perform@nxne.com from the address you applied with, and we will:

• tell you what your application contains,
• correct anything that is wrong,
• delete your application and its files,
• or withdraw it from consideration entirely.

You can also check where your application stands at any time at mynxne.com/status using the reference code from your confirmation. Deleting an application cannot be undone, and it does mean withdrawing it from the year's consideration.

If what we do with applications changes, this page changes first, and the date at the top moves with it.
